Incomprehensible ~ Songbird

Minnie Julia Riperton. . . My introduction began on June 07, 2009 via TV ONE Unsung. I wish I could tell her it was a pleasure meeting you; however, she passed away at the young age of 31 when I was only a few months old.

TV ONE Unsung captured the essence of a beautiful young lady that had a joyful spirit that could turn anyone’s somber mood to an upbeat swing.

It stuns me sometimes how every year we hear certain singers whose voices create chills throughout our body, yet, their not a commercial success. While others who are clearly studio singers become major stars.

Mrs. Riperton somehow was lost in that shuffle of what genre of music do we put you in?

Yet, studio executives never realized, she crossed many genre of music. It was Riperton Xclusive!

She’s always been noted for her singles “Lovin You” and “Memory Lane”; however, beyond Mariah Cary and our latest sensation Leona Lewis how many artists can sustain notes in the sixth and seventh octave vocal range. Her ability to enunciate in the whistle register is a rarity and truly a gift. Mariah Carey has cited Minnie Riperton as the greatest influence on her singing technique.

In 1976 Riperton was diagnosed with breast cancer, and unfortunately lost her battle in the summer of 1979. She will always be one of our many Perfect Angels!
