The Annual Trumpet Awards 2010 has taken Atlanta, GA by storm.
“The lovely Mrs. Xernona Clayton is the Founder, President and CEO of the Trumpet Awards Foundation, Inc. and Creator and Executive Producer of the Foundation’s Trumpet Awards.
The Trumpet Awards is a prestigious event highlighting African American accomplishments and contributions. The 2010 Trumpet Awards Honorees are Mr. Steve Harvey, Judge Clarence Cooper, Don Jackson, Dr. Farrah Gray, Rev. Jim Holley PhD., Rev. & Mrs. Joseph E. Lowery, Clarence Otis, Jr., John Rogers, Jr., Synthia Saint James, and General William E. Ward.”
Ms. Clayton is an Icon, a Legend, and undoubtedly an Extraordinary Woman.
“Before the world was introduced to Oprah Winfrey, Ms. Clayton was the one who paved the way and became the first Southern African-American female to host a daily prime time talk show. The show was broadcast on WAGA-TV, CBS affiliate in Atlanta and would eventually be renamed the Xernona Clayton Show.”
Ms. Clayton later became an active participant on the front lines during the Civil Right Movement. “She organized events for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), under the direction of late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and she developed a deep friendship with Dr. King’s wife, Coretta Scott King.”
At 80 years young, and still lookin' good, she’s going strong and making a tremendous impact in the African American community. So Ms. Clayton we salute you!
We salute you for being an example of what it means to be a strong African-American Women, a Leader, a Community Activist, an a Humanitarian.
